Susan
Douglas
Associate Editor, Distant
Thunder
Susan Douglas is a race fan whose
family has finally become resigned to
her very vocal position that there isn't
much good on TV except motorsports--of
any kind. She provides comments on
subjects like safety and other racing
topics especially as they relate to
women in racing."

Juliana
Williamson-Page
Associate Editor, Distant
Thunder
Juliana was just a casual TV viewer of
NASCAR and the occasional Indy 500 until
she met her future husband, John, a
rabid open-wheel fan. One of their
earliest date was a trip to the '95
Grand Prix of Monterey at Laguna Seca
Raceway. Juliana instantly fell in love
with the sites, sounds and smells of
racing (oh, that methanol!). John
subsequently surprised Juliana while
they were attending the '96 Grand Prix of
Long Beach: John arranged for then
Indy car driver Robby Gordon to
propose marriage on his behalf - on
stage - in front of 150 people at a
fan club gathering. Juliana accepted
of course, and they later spent a
race fan's dream honeymoon at the
track, returning to Laguna Seca for
the '96 Grand Prix This directly led
to their relocation to
Monterey in 1998. Juliana now
fulfills her need for speed trackside
at Laguna Seca's CART, World and AMA
Superbike, and ALMS events.
Professionally, Juliana has spent the
last 16 years working in law
enforcement and legal offices; she
spends her days writing and editing
investigative reports. Juliana
observed several women in the paddock
performing support roles, but few
women behind the wheel She wants to
join the effort to promote women in
motorsports by hearing from, learning
about, and writing for women drivers.

Lorraine
Clark
Associate Editor for the U.K.,
Distant Thunder
Lorraine Clark comes from London and
during the week is the Office Manager at
A D International, a
training consultancy and publisher. She
started racing an MG Midget in the MGOC Championship in 1995,
after passing her ARDS test with flying
colours at Mallory Park. Her car is a
road-going 1275 Midget. After a year
spent 'learning the circuits' 'doing my
time' 'learning the art', she had her
engine rebuilt to a somewhat more
competitive spec. The following year,
husband Terry and Lorraine re-shelled
the car. It now looked and felt great.
She went on to put in her first Podium
finish at Silverstone that year, taking
a second place. Although she has only
been racing for five years now,
Lorraine's dramatic style never ceases
to amaze. This and Lorraine's
determination to succeed have resulted
in a dramatic fire on the track at
Pembrey in Wales as a fuel pipe split,
spilling fuel onto the tyres, causing
the car to spin and burst into flames,
and a total brake failure, as the seal
in the master cylinder gave way due to
excessive heat, resulting in a triple
roll at Zolder in Belgium! This winter
the car has to be re-shelled again
following a dramatic season, but she
remains undeterred. Her beautiful awards
for 4th in MGOC Class A, and top lady
racing driver of BWRDC (British Women's
Racing Drivers Club) just encourage her
forward, with ambitions to race an MGF
in the not too distant future.

Vickie
Heywood
Graphic Designer
After working for nearly ten years in
Washington state service and spending
the last six in design for printing,
Vickie discovered web design. For her,
finding a medium in which color wasn't
more expensive than black and white was
a big thrill. She tried to find a way to
include web design in her job, but found
little support for it. So, she took her
toys, went home, and learned more about
HTML and designing graphics for the web.
When the opportunity to volunteer for
this site redesign presented itself, she
jumped at the chance and hasn't regreted
a single moment of this kind of learning
opportunity. If you want to see her
self-promotional site, check it out
here
