The CASCAR Super Series

From 19th to 6th, the Hard Way

The Cascar Super Series visited the oldest street race course in North America, Trios Rivers, Quebec. The Weather Network team didn’t start the weekend out the best, with injury in the pits and broken car parts. We managed to qualify 19th on the starting grid, and finished an impressive 6th place. I was top rookie for the third time this year.

Friday morning just before entering the race track for practice, the clutch line broke. The Weather Network team pushed me out onto the track and told me to just shift without a clutch for this session. But I could only get third gear. After one lap I was back in the pits and my team went to work. Once the transmission was out, the line was repaired. My crew shouted to let the car down and get ready to go practice. As the jack was coming down the jack stands gave way and the race car fell to the ground. Don Brock was still under the car. In a panic the team got help from another team and jacked the car back up. Luckily, Don was not hurt bad. They did take him to the hospital just to be safe. The report was he had a small crack in his pelvis bone. Don spent the rest of the weekend in the pits giving orders on crutches.

Qualifying went a little better as the team changed a rear gear to give me more bite off the corners, but I just didn’t have the power under the hood some other teams had. After speaking to Pete Gibbons, he told me he would replace the motor after this race and agreed it was getting a little tired. (This was its eighth race plus a bunch of practice).

hit my brakes...
As the green flag dropped everyone rushed into the corner and started to stack up. I hit my brakes trying to avoid hitting the car in front of me, and the rear end came around. I was lucky no one hit me as I spun and kept going. But now I was in last place and had my work cut out for me. It was not long before the Weather Network car was in the groove and on the move passing cars.

I had a great race car all weekend, in fact is was the best it has ever been. I could place it anywhere and it would stick. I was having a good race with a bunch of other race cars. I like to race and make every move successful. At the half way point there was yet to be an accident and the heat of the day was beginning to affect everyone as the race pace started to slow down.

I took the 6th...
With less than ten laps to go, the yellow flags appeared for an accident. This was a lucky break for me, because I was able to catch the pack and get a good restart. I was eighth as the green flag flew and within the last three laps closed up the gab to take 6th place. This was my best finish in the Cascar Super Series and really helped me in the point’s race.

Next race is Aug 11 at Cayuga.

(Quick Note from Teri)

Hey Everyone,

What a great 250 laps around Cayuga Speedway last night. We qualified okay but still not great, started 28. I stayed consistent even though the Weather Network Monte Carlo still did not handle well. It was really loose off the corners. But we pulled off 11th place. A great accomplishment for my 23 oval track race. I am getting the hang of this and driving/racing better each time I am in the car.

FOR SOME EXCITING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess who is on the top of the Rookie of the Year award now. I was able to gain a ton of points on the #9 Car of Robbie Thompson the last two races and I now have the lead by two points. I don't want to talk too much about this because we still have three races to go. But it will make for some exciting racing to come.

I am gone for the next few days to drive my Castrol Accuvison Rain Car around the states. OH YA, Keep you eyes on the USA TODAY for an article, plus we are trying to get on OPRAH and DAVID LETTERMAN.

Next race is Calgary - 300 laps. I am soooo looking forward to it.

Teri
