oval track racing is a rush
Mon, 23 Aug 1999

Hello Friends,

Well I guess I have to eat my own words. I raced three times this weekend on 1/2 mile ovals, and What A RUSH. I am HOOKED. The only problem is that 25 laps just doesn't cut it. I want more. Oval track racing is so intense, I would have never thought it was so exciting from a driver's points of view. And let me tell you it is not as easy as it looks.

Our first race was at Spencer Speedway near Rochester NY. I had to start last because I was the rookie. The first race I went from 19th to 13th. There was only one yellow for a stupid move by one car. I was able to keep with the lead pack the entire time.

The second and third races were at Holland Speedway near Buffalo NY. Again I had to start 19th in both races because I was the new guy in town. As the checkered flag fell, I was up to tenth, but at the line I gave it away to one of the guys going for the championship. I finished 11th.

The next race I had a few problems with my brake peddle, the team had to bleed it after the heat and found some air pockets. So during the third race I was a little more careful and only made it to the 13th position before the 25 laps were over.

It was great fun racing so close for so long of a time. I only wish the races were longer. In September we have a 75 lapper and a 25 lapper, they call it a 100 lap race, but with a break in the middle, I don't get it, but I will go with it.

Next weekend we race at Mosport. I can not wait. I would do this every day given the chance. Like I said I am hooked.

See ya.

almost got my first win
Mon, 30 Aug 1999

Hello Friends,

Have I told you lately how much fun I am having racing oval tracks? This weekend it looked like I would get my first win. I led the most laps during the heat, with only a few laps to go one guy got under me and he took the lead. I finished 2nd.

During the feature I started outside pole, stayed outside for a few laps then fell back to third. I stayed in third for a while, them boom. A piece of exhaust broke off, a piece 3X6 inches. I lost all power, started to breath carbon monoxide and fell back to 11th. After the race they wanted me to go to the medical office and get some oxygen, but I just took some headache pills, water and was okay. Well a little spiny for a while, then I was okay.

This weekend we have a 100 lapper, I can not wait. I will keep you informed.

See you,
Terry

Hello Friends,

This weekend did not go as planed at least for the racers, but I am sure the farmers are happy.

We got in practice and one round of qualifying and heats, then the skies opened up and everyone was told to go home, racing would be over for the night.

I was glad, because I had been fighting a cold and did not feel much like racing. Next week I should be better and ready to race hard.

Hope you had a great labor day weekend.

See ya,
Terry

another great race
Mon, 13 Sept. 1999

Hey Friends,

Another great personal best of oval track racing. I needed some help qualifying in just two laps. I would start 22nd of 25 cars.

The car was handling really bad. I could not drive it through the corners, so I went for help. Wow what a difference a few turns of a shock makes on oval track cars.

I was able to drive the car and was ready to race.

The series is funny. If a car spins and it looks like it will be a long time to clean up the mess, they red flag the race and you sit on the track. It is good because then you get all green flag racing.

I moved from 22nd to 9th with five laps to go. Then were was a yellow. The series told us we would get the white and checkered, so 1 and 1/2 laps of green. A guy jumped the re-start and took off. I did not think he could do that, but I guess he could, so I finished 10th. Still really happy about the drive. It was great fun racing side by side, and then saying 'bye 'bye to the guys.

Next week we get to do it all over again, but we are back to 35 lap races. I like the longer ones better.

Hope all is well with you.
