The CASCAR Super Series

MacDonald-Cadieux finishes in the top ten

Two hundred and fifty laps around the Mosport International Speedway made for an interesting race on Sunday, June 24. I finished ninth overall and was, for the second time, the top finishing rookie.

The Weather Network Monte Carlo qualified round one in the 21st position and round two in 19th. CASCAR combined the two sessions, so I would start in 21st position in the main race.

I have raced this Mosport track many times before, but with all the new changes to every corner, it was like a totally new race track. Plus I am still getting use to the CASCAR cars.

The Weather Network racing team had a strategy -- to short pit. If we got a full course yellow between laps 20 and 25 we would pit and refuel only. There would be no tire change unless we had a problem.

But that pit window never happened. There was a yellow at lap ten, then green flag racing until lap 58. So many teams had to do green flag pit stops.

The team took on fuel but I was a little quick on the throttle exiting the pits and received a stop and go penalty. That really hurt us as we had to come into the pits a second time and we went down one lap.

But that would be all we would lose on this day.

As the laps were counting down, I was in a solid tenth place. Despite a hectic last four laps with cars spinning and hitting walls, I managed to hold on and finished in ninth place overall.

Next race will be at Kawartha speedway.
